At the invitation of the Peoples Government and the Governor
of Jilin Province, Hong Hu, political and economic delegation
of the Executive Council of AP Vojvodina, headed by the President
of the Executive Council of AP Vojvodina, Đorđe Đukić, paid
an official visit to this friendly province, between 14th
and 19th October 2003, when they signed a Protocol Registry
about talks.
This visit was aimed at stimulating enhancement of economic
and other types of mutual cooperation, after a long break
in cooperation (the last meeting of officials of Vojvodina
and Jilin took place in 1996).

Jilin Province, as well as Vojvodina, represents the
most developed agricultural area in the country, it
is rich with natural resources and it has developed
network of scientific institutes.
The Province, that has a population of 27,3 million
(mostly of Han nationality), is placed in the North-East
of China and it borders with Russia and Korean peninsula.
It is well-known as Province with strong agriculture
(a year crop yield is more than 20 million tons), it
has rich forest resources, developed livestock breeding
because of vast pastures and taigas, great resources
of oil and natural gas, developed car and pharmaceutical
industry.

During the visit of the delegation of AP Vojvodina to
Jilin Province, new initiatives for cooperation arouse:
- Initiative for starting cooperation of fairs, and
in that sense, an invitation was extended to the Government
of Jilin Province to organise presentation of economic
potentials of their Province at the International Fair
of Agriculture in Novi Sad in May 2004 (which was realised).
Meetings at fairs also helped in organising business
forums aimed at establishing direct contacts of entrepreneurs.
- On the part of representatives of Jilin Province,
initiative for organisation of cultural event “Days
of Vojvodina economy in Jilin Province” in some of
the biggest economic centers of their Province.
- The most useful talks were between representatives
of the Academy of Agricultural Studies and scientists
from the Serbian-Chinese Centre for Selection and
Breeding of Sunflower Seeds from Baychang City.
They expressed interest to enhance cooperation, apart
from that one in selection and breeding of sunflower
seeds, also in selection and breeding of maize, wheat
and soya beans. It is proposed to establish cooperation
in research of quality of soil, and that Institute
for Field and Vegetable Crops from Novi Sad share
and transfer its experience in implementation of agrotechnical
measures on mineral spring land.
- Both sides expressed their interest in creating
mutual hybrids in Vojvodina and Jilin.
As an example of successful cooperation with our Institute
for Field and Vegetable Crops, the hosts pointed out
that, due to the utilization of sunflower variety
produced as a result of cooperation, they increased
their yield from 2.5 tons to 3 tons per hectare, as
well as the percentage of oil from 38.8 to 44.7. According
to them, this improvement occurred as a result of
positive contribution on our part.
- At the initiative of the Governor of Jilin Province,
they agreed to exchange two students (i.e. students
will learn Chinese language for two years, at the
expense of the Government of Jilin Province, that
is, Serbian language, at the expense of AP Vojvodina).
