AP VOJVODINA HAS BEEN DESIGNATED TO BE A EUROPEAN REGION 2006 |

In January 2004, the Executive Council of AP Vojvodina decided
to apply as a candidate for European Region 2006 award at the
European organisation “European Region of the Year”, European
initiative supported by the Council of Europe.

“European
Region of the Year” Organisation,
with its headquarters in Barcelona, has chosen AP Vojvodina
to be “European Region of 2006” out of nine regions from
different parts of Europe, after complete evaluation and
sessions held by combined committee, made out of international
experts

In documentation for this contest,
Secretariat for Regional and International Cooperation
of the Executive Council of AP Vojvodina, included all
important characteristics of Vojvodina , from social-political
and economic characteristics to civil sector, architecture,
art, sport and private sector.
With generous support by many organisations and institutions,
as well as by political parties, the collected material
has been presented through press, pamphlets and brochures
on visual and intellectual achievements, all in accordance
with the competition regulations. By means of video,
CDs and other media they presented a complete economy
of Vojvodina, economical development programme, touristic
offers, Novi Sad Fair, the City of Novi Sad, cultural
heritage, museums, galleries, Petrovaradin Fortress,
history of Vojvodina, Vojvodina as the Danube Basin
region and Vojvodina seen from the female angle.
Over 20 non-governmental organisations gave their support
to this candidacy.

On 21st June 2004, at the ceremony held as a part of
the Second International Meeting of Business People
from South Eastern Europe and EU, which took place in
the Assembly of AP Vojvodina in Novi Sad, an agreement
was signed on nomination between the “European Region
of the Year”, supported by the President of this organisation,
Mr. Xavier Tudela and the President of the Executive
Council of AP Vojvodina, Mr. Đorđe Đukić.

With this prestigious title, Vojvodina has an opportunity
to cooperate with the organisation for promotion of
the “European Region of the Year” which will make
“International Media Plan for the Region” and which
cooperates with number of international television
stations in promoting the region designated to be
a European Region of the Year.
According to “International Media Plan”, an act of
this organisation, financial resources are appropriated
for the promotion of our region in the world.
The aim of this promotion is increasing the awareness
about the events in our region, contribution to its
development, as well as presentation of specificities
of our region: social, economic, cultural, touristic
and others.
Being designated to be the European region of the
year, AP Vojvodina has gained the right to use an
emblem “Vojvodina European Region of 2006” in all
public presentations of AP Vojvodina, at regional
and international meetings, as well as in official
documents.
The content and shape of the emblem has been established
by the “European Region of the Year” organisation.
